RICHMOND WOMEN CELEBRATE 25TH ANNIVERSARY IN STYLE
In a year which started with the Richmond Heavies celebrating 40 years, followed by the whole Club celebrating its 150th birthday by entertaining the Barbarians, Richmond’s Women are not to be outdone and intend to throw the party to end all parties this coming Saturday, 18th June in honour of their 25th anniversary.
Having won the Premiership for the second year in a row, they have much to celebrate and many of the Internationals that grace their ranks will no doubt be in attendance, as well as our own Debs Griffin, Chairman of the RFUW and long time RFC member who was awarded the OBE in the Queens Birthday Honours list. Many congratulations to Debs - a week of awards for her as our President had made her a RFC Vice President at the AGM a few days before!
Karen Findlay was also made an RFC Vice President and congratulations go to her for all the support and hard work she has put into the section over the years. Without Karen there is no doubt that
women's rugby at Richmond would not be in the fantastic shape it is.
The Women’s 7s campaign got off to a good start only losing to Wasps in the final of the Windsor 7s and with wins for the students at the Middlesex 7s, beating St Mary’s 39 – 0 in the final, followed by a successful tour to Amsterdam 7s with the Heavies (!!) where the ‘’Heavettes’’ won the Ladies Integer Plate beating OA Saints 40 – 0 in the final. The Rugby Rocks 7s saw many of the girls playing for the Wooden Spoon (coached by a certain Karen Findlay) who won the Elite competition by beating England!

With teams entered for the Solstice 7s, Newquay Surf 7s and Middlesex Charity 7s the rest of the summer looks as active as ever for our Women and we wish them luck as well as a Very Happy Birthday!

This week’s topics:
Forum Meeting cancelled
Club AGM Tuesday 7th June
Richmond Golf Day Wednesday 18th May
David Corben’s Memorial Service Wed 8th June
Kids Summer Camp Tues 23rd Aug/Thurs 25th Aug
Tesco/Sainsbury’s sports equipment vouchers
Last Saturday the FIRST XV finished their season in style by beating Southend 51 -36, thus avenging that first game defeat. This means they finish 3rd in the League, which is where the VIKINGS and SAXONS also finished in their respective leagues, and together with the WOMEN’S Premiership win is a fantastic testimony to Richmond Rugby. A fact that was duly celebrated well into Saturday night by the boys and girls with a little help from their friends and vast quantities of alcohol.
Before we all take a bit of time out there are a couple of items that I feel will be of interest. Firstly for various reasons we have had to cancel the FORUM MEETING which is in the diary for next Monday 9th May. Our apologies but as the CLUB AGM is only a month away on Tuesday 7th June (7pm Members Bar) we feel any burning issues can wait until then, so please let me know if you have anything you wish to be included on the agenda.
Richmond FC Golf Day May 18th 2011

Kids Summer Camp
We intend to hold a 3 day pre season camp to get the kids back into rugby mode on Tuesday 23rd/Thursday 25th August - watch this space for further details.
Tesco/Sainsbury’s sports equipment vouchers
The voucher scheme for schools and clubs currently being run by these stores comes to an end on 8th May for Tesco and 31st May for Sainsbury’s. We are collecting the vouchers to provide equipment for our minis and youth and would welcome any you have cluttering up the table at home
Finally a huge thank you to everyone for the massive support we have received throughout a season which has been one of the more exciting ones, and in which we have celebrated in true Richmond style the 150 years we have been around. Summer well and we look forward to seeing you for the first league game of the 2011/12 season on Saturday August 27th – yes it really does start that early!!!
