 RICHMOND FC HISTORY AND FUTURE

Richmond FC is a club with an illustrious and historic past - being one of the oldest rugby clubs. Formed in 1861 - our 150th anniversary is this year!  We have a very big and successful minis section who play on the fantastic and well kept pitches and facilities of the Richmond Athletic Ground, in the heart of Richmond.

Richmond minis is about two things, learning to play rugby whilst having fun and improving your rugby skills whilst having fun.

The minis are able to call on the coaching and fitness resources of the senior mens and womens section to help us to develop the rugby players of the future. In addition the Richmond Board fully recognises that the the way for the club to develop a sustainable future is to grow and develop our players from within  - many of our senior squad players started as minis.

We are a club for all and our club ethos embraces all the section from the minis to the seniors - One Club, the Richmond Way - you will hear it called a number of things but it means each of us doing our bit to help one another and making sure our club has continue for another 150 years.

If you fancy giving us a try come along on  a Sunday morning 9:30 am for training - mini rugby runs for age groups Under6 - Under12.

One way the minis can help the seniors out is by coming along and cheering them on a Saturday and one of the big games of the season is next saturday:

Rugby is a great game and teaches young people many great skills, as a parent, helper.coach, spectator please remember - Set a good example at all times.

Below is the good spectators guide but equally valid for coaches and players. You know that there is a lot of effort put in by you all to get the teams into these tournaments - they are put on with the intention to be enjoyed by all.

In the heat of the moment it is easy to get carried away with your emotions that can lead to an unnecessary outburst, please remember this has an impact on everyone around you. Something that football is battling with is the lack of respect within the game at all levels, please take a moment to read the following guidelines to ensure rugby does not go down the same road as the round ball game. Thank you.

Always act as a positive role models to all players.

Remember children play sport primarily for their own enjoyment, not for that of the spectators.

Acknowledge good individual and team performance from all players irrespective of the team in which they play.

Respect match officials’ decisions, even if they appear to make a mistake – remember, they are volunteers providing an opportunity for players to play rugby.

Never verbally abuse players, coaches, match officials or fellow spectators: such behaviour can create a negative environment for players and their behaviour will often reflect this.

Acknowledge effort and good performance rather than ‘to win at all costs’.

Verbally encourage all players in a positive manner, never shout at he players.

Encourage all players irrespective of the ability and regardless of the team in which they play.

Thanks
