Courage, Resilience, Honesty: Richmond’s Path to the Women's Championship

Courage, Resilience, Honesty: Richmond’s Path to the Women's Championship

Freya Portway16 May - 11:00

By Ross Doneghan

As the 18th of May draws near, the eyes of the rugby world are upon us. We are about to embark upon an almighty test of courage, resilience and honesty. Courage to be brave in the decisions that we make; resilient against the actions of our opponents; and honest in how we want to be in the heat of the game. It is not the score that we should remember. But the efforts we demonstrate to embody those three values.

On Sunday, we face an almighty opponent. One who has earned the right to stand toe to toe with us. Old Albanians arrive at Twickenham full of deserved confidence. They are a quality team, full of quality players. And this fixture will be one that every player on both sides will always remember. To come within 80 minutes of championship glory is a feat in itself. But daresay I, a feat which neither side will want to rest on. And it is this that drives Richmond on. A burning desire to go beyond that which we have already conquered. A craving for glory. A desperate fight for victory. And a victory that will be brought forth by courage, resilience and honesty. It is here, in these virtues, these pillars of fortitude that you will find the heart of every Richmond supporter, club member and player.

The mighty Richmond women do not march onto the hallowed turf of Twickenham alone, but with the courage, resilience and honesty of every person wearing our beloved gold, red and black. Our colours will burn bright in the stands, and our banners will beat proudly against the sky. For we are not one team, but one club. A club for life! Our time is now.
