RICHMOND Rugby is pleased to confirm that Community Group has appointed Ed Roberts to the position of Head of Community.
A former player and age group coach, Ed is no stranger to the Club and we look forward to him starting the role on August 1.
Our Community Department is powered by Community Group (https://www.community-group.co.uk/), which specialise in aiding the enrichment, well-being and health of our communities through wide-ranging and exceptional opportunities.
Richmond Rugby and Community Group have been partners since July 2017 and we look forward to building on the work of the department over the past five years.
Ed - a well-known and popular figure at The Richmond Athletic Ground having run out for our Saxons, Normans and Jutes - arrives from Richmond upon Thames School, where he has been Head of Boys' PE and successful in delivering quality sports coaching for a period of six years.
He has also long enjoyed strong connections with other local schools, sports clubs and charitable groups, all of which will be invaluable in his new post.
Ed said: “The opportunity to work for Community Group alongside such an established rugby club such as Richmond Rugby was an opportunity that I could not turn down. In the last five years, the community section at Richmond has grown into one of the best providers in South West London. Upon starting this new role, I will consolidate on the amazing work that has already been achieved and look to aspire to be one of the leading community sport sections in the whole of London. ”
Club Chairman, John Heaton welcomes Ed’s arrival and anticipates continued and enhanced success from the community department, which has already featured strongly in the local community with various successful initiatives in recent years.
John added: “Every club, sports or otherwise, has been seriously impacted in the last couple of years because of the Covid pandemic and the subsequent disruption to their activities. On top of that we are now faced with a likely tightening of purse strings because of the delicate state of the economy, but I’m very confident Ed and his team will provide positive support to Richmond and the community and I’m really pleased he has joined us here.”
Community Group Managing Director, Simon Price, commented: “Community Group is delighted to welcome Ed to the team. I am confident that we will build on the foundations created to drive and develop future community engagement strategies. Ed’s passion for supporting our local and wider communities is evident to see and I am delighted he has agreed to join us."
