Paddy Case Announced as Club Captain for 2025/26 Campaign

Josh Carpenter17 Jul - 08:47

Richmond Rugby is delighted to confirm the appointment of Paddy Case as Club Captain for the 2025/26 season.

Case was Richmond 1st XV’s Matchday captain on seven occasions across both National League 1 fixtures and tour matches at his time so far at the club. He has also been an integral part of the leadership group this past season. His new role as official Club Captain is a natural progression, recognising his influence both on and off the field.

Since arriving at the Richmond Athletic Ground, the 25-year-old centre has made 24 First XV appearances across the last three league campaigns, crossing the whitewash for eight tries. Known for his tireless work rate, sharp rugby intelligence and composed game management, Paddy has consistently demonstrated the qualities befitting a club leader.

Now entering his fourth season at the club, Case is looking to bounce back from an injury-hit 2024/25 campaign, which limited him to just six appearances. Despite his time on the sidelines, Paddy remained a constant presence around the squad, bringing energy and commitment on matchdays, including running water and supporting teammates from the touchline. He returned to the starting XV for the final two fixtures of the season, vice-captaining the side against Rotherham Titans and also featuring against Blackheath.

The role of Club Captain at Richmond Rugby is separate to matchday responsibilities. It represents a commitment to upholding the club’s proud traditions, values, and culture, both on and off the pitch. The Club Captain acts as a key voice for the playing group and as an ambassador across the wider club community.

Alongside Paddy, the player leadership group, made up of a select group within the performance squad, will continue to support matchday and training operations. From this group, a game day captain and vice-captain will be appointed throughout the season.

Speaking about his appointment, Case said: “Avoiding the obvious clichés, it really is a massive honour to be named Club Captain at a place steeped in so much history. We are a club that is built on good people both on and off the pitch and whilst none of us are full-time, we have created an environment where outside of our day jobs we can play a high level of rugby, but also enjoy ourselves.

While we understand and are looking forward to the challenges of the Champ on the pitch, it’s also important that we maintain the traditional ethos of this great club.”

Head of Rugby Rob Powell added: “Paddy is an impressive person, he is a natural leader, very popular in the group and possesses all the qualities we look for in the individuals at the club – he is someone who truly embodies the values of Richmond Rugby.

He was also a central figure on our recent tour to Japan, taking a huge role on the tour committee and serving as our spokesperson at every formal occasion.

Everyone at Richmond Rugby congratulates Paddy on his appointment and looks forward to the season ahead.
