Winners announced from tonight's Richmond Rugby Awards.

Congratulations to our Richmond Rugby Award winners from tonight’s end of season celebration at the Richmond Athletic Ground.

RICHMOND RUGBY AWARD WINNERS:

Simon Everton Memorial Cup
Winner: Minis Girls

Simon Everton was a Minis dad in the late 90s who became Minis Chair and long-time Safeguarding Officer. He drove and laid the foundation of the Richmond Minis Festival which is now one of the most well-known and best attended in the country.

Simon passed away in November 2016 and the Simon Everton Memorial Cup was commissioned by his wife Susanna and son Guy in his memory. It is awarded to the Richmond Minis Age Group of the Year, chosen from the Under 6 – Under 11 age groups.


Paul Mervis Trophy
Winner: Reuben Cole

Paul Mervis was a young soldier who was killed whilst serving in Afghanistan in June 2009 and who played rugby in the club’s youth section in the 90s. His father Jonathan donated the Paul Mervis Trophy to be awarded in his memory each season to the top end of the youth section, U16/U17/U18 to a player who has contributed most to their team both on and off the field.


David Buchanan Cup
Winner: Chris Judge

David Buchanan was a First XV player and long-time supporter of the club. He served as President from 1995-1998, taking the Club into the professional era.

He passed away of COVID in April 2020 and his family commissioned the David Buchanan President’s Cup to be awarded to the Prop of the Season, chosen by the coaches.


David Corben Cup
Winner: Luc Jones

David Corben was the Chairman of the club. His financial support and enthusiasm helped bring Richmond out of administration and set the foundations for the vibrant club we enjoy today.

He passed away in March 2011 and his widow Cherry commissioned the David Corben Cup to be awarded in his memory to the senior men’s player who has contributed the most both on and off the field during the season.

Richmond Women’s 1st XV Most Improved Player
Winner: Letizia Minazzato

Richmond Men’s 1st XV Most Improved Player
Winner: Chidera Obonna


Nigel Griffiths Trophy
Winner: Charlie Banks

Nigel Griffiths was the First XV Manager during the professional era in the late 1990s. He died suddenly and before his time in September 2001 and in recognition of his great love for Richmond his friends at his local pub commissioned the Nigel Griffiths Memorial Cup in his memory which is now awarded to the Under 22 Player of the Season, an age group Nigel had particularly nurtured and supported.
