Richmond U12s produced a spirited comeback to secure a 20-15 win away against Old Wimbledonian Warriors on Sunday.
Wimbledon started strongly, putting Richmond under pressure in the middle of the park with some excellent defensive work and racing into a 10-0 lead. Richmond gradually grew into the game, however, beginning to move the ball quicker and using their pace and width to stretch the defence. The change in tempo paid off as they pulled a try back to make it 10-5 by half time.
The second half saw Richmond really hit their stride. Dominating the ruck and continuing to move the ball well across the field, they scored twice to turn the game around and take a 15–10 lead. Wimbledon responded with some powerful running to level the match at 15-15, setting up a tense final period.
Richmond eventually found the decisive score later in the half to edge ahead 20-15 and kept the pressure on until the final whistle, coming close to another try after a quick move down the wing.
A strong team effort and an excellent second-half performance sealed a well-earned victory for Richmond. Player of the match: Samuel Donne (as voted by Wimbledon)
