Richmond Rugby has become something of a rugby United Nations this week, welcoming international visitors from across the globe. Following a visit from the Canadian Men’s National Team, the club is now preparing to host an U16 touring side from Malmö Rugby Club in Sweden.

The Swedish side chose Richmond as one of their tour destinations thanks to their connection with Richmond Women’s captain and club legend, Amanda Swartz.

Malmö head coach Robert Kielerstajin explained that his squad brings a wide range of rugby experience. While some players have several years of experience under their belts, including appearances for Sweden at youth international level, others are only just beginning their rugby journeys.

With limited playing numbers in Sweden, girls’ rugby is predominantly played in the sevens format. As a result, Sunday's fixture will be a first taste of 15-a-side rugby for many of the visiting players, making it an exciting opportunity to develop their skills and experience a different side of the game.

South West London also has strong ties to the Swedish community, with the Swedish School in London based in Barnes and its sixth form located just down the road in Kew. The club has reached out to the school in the hope of welcoming plenty of local Swedish supporters to the Richmond Athletic Ground for this special occasion.

The Malmö side will visit Old Reigatians, Medway and Ashford during their tour before facing their final challenge against Richmond's U16 Girls.

For Richmond, the fixture presents an opportunity to bounce back after a tough away encounter against Guildford. With the strength throughout Richmond's youth section, Sunday's clash promises to be an exciting contest between two ambitious young sides.

The fixture is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate grassroots rugby, build international friendships and support the continued growth of the game.

Come down to the Richmond Athletic Ground this Sunday for a midday kick-off and show your support for our U16 Girls and our Swedish visitors.

We look forward to seeing you there!
