Richmond Women secured the Women’s Championship South 1 title on Sunday with a hard-fought 26–19 victory over Old Albanian Saints at the Richmond Athletic Ground.

The result guarantees Richmond will finish the league in first place, capping an outstanding campaign that has seen them win 15 of their 16 matches so far, including an impressive 11-game winning streak. With two league fixtures still to play, Richmond have already done enough to secure the title.

Knowing victory would confirm their place at the top of the table, Richmond delivered a composed and physical performance in front of a supportive home crowd. Old Albanian Saints provided a stern test and kept the contest close throughout, but Richmond’s clinical finishing and determined defence ensured they held their advantage to close out the 26–19 win.

Securing first place means Richmond will host a semi-final at the Richmond Athletic Ground on 26 April against the second-placed team from Women’s Championship North 1.

That spot is currently being contested between Cheltenham and Sale FC, with the final opponent to be confirmed once the northern league concludes.

Richmond will now look to maintain their momentum in the remaining league fixtures before turning their focus to the play-offs, as they aim to build on a remarkable season.

Supporters are encouraged to come down to the RAG on 26 April to back the team in what promises to be a huge afternoon of rugby.
