Richmond’s Women’s Section continued their incredibly strong start to the 2025/26 season, with both the 1st XV and Valkyries delivering standout performances over the weekend.
The 1st XV extended their unbeaten run to three from three with a commanding 62–3 victory, rounding off a superb doubleheader of rugby at the RAG and maintaining their perfect start to the Championship South 1 campaign. Facing a newly promoted Trojans side who were something of an unknown quantity, Richmond’s blend of structure, skill, and physicality quickly came to the fore. Their defensive organisation nullified Trojans’ attacking threats, while their sharp, clinical finishing proved decisive. It was a performance that showcased both discipline and dominance, hallmarks of a side with serious ambition this season. Richmond now turn their attention to Thurrock (A) this Sunday, aiming to keep their winning momentum rolling.
Meanwhile, the Valkyries (Women’s 2XV) kicked off their league season in style, defeating Hammersmith & Fulham 66–0 in the opening round of the Women’s NC 2 South East competition. The result followed a strong pre-season win and a 36–5 victory in the first round of the Women’s Junior Cup, keeping the Valkyries unbeaten so far this season. Prop Tolu Duckworth and winger Molly Warburton both crossed for hat-tricks, while Helena Solomon added a brace. Further tries came from Hannah Kent, Samm Hart, Zainab Alema, and Amber Perry-Jordan, with Sophie Messem on target from the tee.
Reflecting on a weekend of dominant performances, Head Coach Ross Doneghan said:
“This weekend saw both 1st XV and the Valkyries put in fantastic performances. Every player is working so hard to be the best they can be, and our performances over the weekend are testaments to that.”
The Valkyries next travel to London Welsh on 19 October before hosting Old Alleynians in the second round of the Women’s Junior Cup a week later. With both teams training together under Doneghan’s ‘one squad, two teams’ approach, Richmond’s women are setting the standard early this season and with Twickenham in their sights, both teams have everything to play for.
