We are delighted to share our upcoming rugby/sport skills programmes and sport camps being held at Richmond Rugby this summer

As summer holidays draw near, Richmond Rugby is excited to unveil a range of opportunities for young athletes to shine. Our Community Team has crafted a new programme of sessions to engage young players and elevate their game ahead of the upcoming season, as well as keep them entertained through the summer holidays.

As well as our ever-popular sports camps we're thrilled to introduce our new weekly skills programmes: Strength School, Speed School and Rugby Development Programme. Each is carefully tailored to cater to different age groups and skill levels. All these programmes and camps are open to members and non-members alike.


RUGBY AND SPORT SKILLS PROGRAMMES


Rugby Development Programme 9 - 11 years
Every Monday for 9 weeks
Starts 6th May 2024
Ends 1st July 2024

Take your rugby game to a new level! Accelerate both your technical rugby skills – catch/ pass, contact/ tackling, kicking – and your tactical game understanding in our off-season programme.

Programme Highlights:

  • Increasing Knowledge of the Game: From the basics of rugby rules to advanced strategies and tactics, our programme provides a comprehensive understanding of the game. Through engaging drills, discussions, and game simulations, children will deepen their knowledge and appreciation for rugby.
  • Ball Skills Mastery: Dribbling, passing, catching—our programme focuses on honing essential ball skills to ensure that players feel confident and competent on the field. With dedicated practice and expert coaching, children will develop precision and control in handling the rugby ball.
  • Strength and Conditioning: Rugby demands strength, agility, and endurance. Our programme includes targeted strength and conditioning exercises designed to improve overall fitness, enhance performance, and reduce the risk of injury. Children will learn proper warm-up techniques, conditioning drills, and strength-building exercises tailored to their age and ability level.
  • Tackling Safely: Safety is paramount in rugby, especially when it comes to tackling. Our programme teaches children how to tackle safely and effectively, emphasising proper technique, body positioning, and contact awareness. With a focus on player safety and sportsmanship, children can enjoy the physicality of rugby while minimizing the risk of injury.


Speed School 12 – 16 years
Every Monday for 9 weeks

Faster athletes win games! Learn the correct mechanics of acceleration, speed and change of direction for all team sports. Increased mobility, strength and movement control also reduces the likelihood of injuries.

What You'll Learn:

Weeks 1-3: Foundations of Speed and Agility
Master the fundamentals of speed and agility training as you learn proper running mechanics, footwork drills, and agility exercises. Build a solid foundation that will serve as the cornerstone of your athletic development.
Weeks 4-6: Speed Development and Technique Refinement
Take your speed to the next level with targeted speed development drills and technique refinement sessions. Learn advanced sprinting mechanics, acceleration techniques, and strategies for maximizing your speed potential.
Weeks 7-9: Conditioning and Performance Enhancement
Enhance your overall athletic performance with specialised conditioning drills and endurance training. Discover how to improve your stamina, recover faster between bursts of activity, and maintain peak performance throughout competitions.


Strength School 12 – 16 years

SUMMER SPORTS CAMPS



May Half-Term Multi-Sport Camp

Join us for three days of fun, games, and skill-building in a variety of sports! From football to basketball, tennis to cricket, there's something for everyone to enjoy. Our experienced coaches will guide participants through drills, games, and friendly competitions, ensuring a fantastic time for all

  • Open to boys and girls 5 -16 years old
  • All coaches are RFU level 2 qualified, and DBS checked
  • Fun, structured rugby-based sessions that help your child develop their fundamental movement skills, hand-eye coordination, and interactions with other children.


End of Summer Term Rugby Camp

Are you ready to take your rugby skills to the next level? Join us for our highly anticipated End of Summer Term Rugby Camp, happening from July 30th to August 1st, running from 9am to 3pm daily!

As we head into the summer holidays, it's the perfect time to fine-tune those Pre-season skills. We're putting a strong emphasis on work-ons and fundamentals because we believe they are the keys to success on the field. It's all about going back to basics to create unshakeable foundations for your game.

Here's what you can expect at our camp:

  • Intensive skill-building sessions led by experienced coaches
  • Drills and exercises focused on enhancing fundamental techniques
  • Personalised feedback and guidance to help you reach your full potential
  • Fun and competitive scrimmage games to put your skills to the test
