This Sunday, Vicki Jackson will run out in Richmond colours for the final time, bringing a remarkable playing career to a close on one of the biggest stages, the Women’s Championship Final at Allianz Stadium.
Jackson, known affectionately as Jacko, joined Richmond in 2017, bringing with her a wealth of top-level experience from Wasps, Lichfield, and the England setup, where she earned two caps. She also represented the Nomads in the early days of women’s invitational rugby, playing in the inaugural Women’s Barbarians match vs Munster. All these experiences shaped her perspective and made her the kind of senior player teams are built around.
But it’s here at Richmond where her story finds its heart. Whether lining up in midfield or being one of the vocal leaders in training, Vicki has been a role model on and off the pitch. A science teacher by trade, her intelligence, resilience, and vocal leadership have helped shape a new generation of Richmond players. Vicki’s influence is especially felt in defence, through her ability to read the game and organise others.
After stepping away from rugby union following the pandemic, opting for a brief spell in rugby league before developing a growing love for rowing and cycling, she returned this season with unfinished business, intending to have the ultimate comeback season back in union with Richmond.
“She’s not afraid to say what needs to be said,” says close friend and teammate Courtney Treco. “She brings experience, but also belief, and when she speaks, people listen. It’s been a pleasure to play alongside her again.”
“It means a lot to finish here with Richmond because I know it is such a great club to play the game we love.” says Jackson “There’s a great bunch of girls here and I know this club will give them all the same opportunities I had”
Whatever happens on Sunday, Vicki Jackson’s impact on the team will remain. She has lifted those around her, challenged standards, and played with the kind of commitment and clarity that defines this club at its best.
Thank you, Jacko. Enjoy your final run out.
