Richmond Rugby, in partnership with The Richmond Heavies Foundation, is proud to continue offering its cardiac screening programme for players, coaches, staff, and members, a vital initiative that has now surpassed over 1,000 screenings since it began in 2019.
Funded by The Richmond Heavies Foundation
The cardiac screening service is fully funded by The Richmond Heavies Foundation, which invests up to £20,000 every year to deliver this potentially lifesaving programme. It’s part of the Foundation’s ongoing commitment to player welfare and health across the Richmond community.
Who Can Take Part?
The service is available to:
• All Richmond players aged 14 and above
• All coaches and staff
• All Richmond members, who can book a heavily subsidised screening at The New Victoria Hospital for just £60
Screenings are carried out by our trusted medical partners, ensuring professional care and confidential results.
A Proven Commitment to Player Health
The Richmond Heavies Foundation’s cardiac screening initiative was founded by Geoff Lewis, a proud Foundation member whose passion for cardiac health has made Richmond Rugby a leader in player welfare.
Earlier this year, the programme celebrated a major milestone, surpassing 1,000 screenings completed, identifying several previously undetected heart conditions and helping individuals take proactive steps to safeguard their health.
“This programme is one of the most important things we do,” said Richmond Heavies Foundation representative Tom Price. “The Richmond Heavies Foundation is determined to ensure that everyone in our rugby community, from minis to veterans, has access to potentially lifesaving cardiac checks. It’s an investment in the health and future of our club.”
