We head down to the beautiful West Country this Saturday to play the high-flying Cornish Pirates. Suffering only two loses losses in the league and none at home, Pirates will be a difficult side to undo in front of their Cornish faithful. Nevertheless, the mood in the camp is still positive after bagging their first win of their of the season last weekend, and the drive to go and take more points is still strong.
There are no easy games in this league, and the performance against Caldy was encouraging, to say the least. The boys showed what they can do when they get into an attacking flow, but also an ability to see it games the ability to see out games and set a proper defence put in a proper defensive performance. Keeping that momentum going and learning the key lessons from that game has been a major focus in training this week.
Last time we made the long trip down to Cornwall, it was a close affair, trailing by only 2 points until minute 73, when we conceded a try off following a line break. The first time The team will aim to reproduce the fight they showed in that game, along with some of the heroic defending from the last half against Caldy.
There are a few changes to the team, but the core of the side that faced Caldy remains. Fan favourite Luke Springer comes back into the front row, while Xavier Hastings takes his place at the base of the scrum. The 9-10 pairing remains the same, with Alex Schwarz captaining the side on his return to his old club.
Tom Riman will not make the trip down but has attended training sessions throughout the week. James Langston takes his place after playing a solid 53 minutes against Caldy.
The bench will have another 6-2 forwards-backs split to keep that forward pack reinforced in what will be a physical game. Regardless, the game promises to be entertaining. Pirates are a well-drilled side, with quality throughout the 23, and both teams are coming off the back of a win, so both will look to impose themselves on the game.
