Dogs NOT allowed on the ground
Please note that DOGS ARE NOT ALLOWED ON THE GROUND for obvious reasons. Please do respect this rule as increasingly we are having to ask people to remove their dogs from the ground and often suffering verbal abuse as a consequence

This Saturday 18th February, the FIRST XV return home from conquering the Cornish to play their only home game in February against Westcombe Park KO 3pm. These are exciting times with some fantastic rugby on show and the lads need your support more than ever as they run into the last quarter of the season, so please do make a special effort to come down and give them all the encouragement they so richly deserve.
There are spaces available at the usual pre match lunch but I do need to know by return please. Cost £22/head(match entrance not included)

The match is being sponsored by our Club Sponsor McGuireWoods, International lawyers of renown, (click here for further details) who have been such staunch supporters of the club over recent years and whose continued support is so much appreciated by us all. We look forward to welcoming Bengt Grundberg and his colleagues and guests to the day.

On Saturday the VIKINGS are off to the wilds of Gloucestershire to play Cinderford II KO 3pm. The SAXONS are at home to Westcombe Park II KO 2.30pm (KO time tbc) and the NORMANS entertain Thurrock II also at home KO 2.30pm. The BARBARIANS are on half term whilst the HEAVIES play Kew Occasionals at home KO 2pm.

On Sunday the WOMEN 3rd XV are off to play Aylesford away.
YOUTH matches: U17 v Winchester away, U15 v Sevenoaks at home KO 12pm, U14B v London Irish at home KO 12pm, U13 away at Beaconsfield
MINIS are holding a triangular with London Scottish and Effingham & Leatherhead 9.30am to 11.30am

London Scottish v London Welsh Sunday 19th Feb KO 2pm
I would mention that on Sunday, London Scottish First XV are also playing at home against London Welsh KO 2pm so it is likely to be extremely busy at the ground and I would ask all to park considerately. The Members Bar will be used for their pre match lunch but the Sports Bar will of course be open for that necessary post training pint and bag of chips.

Enjoy a free glass of champagne!
On Saturday we are carrying out a special promotion spearheaded by Sharon Whitehead and some lovely ladies from the women’s section, who will be on duty in the lobby by the canteen to entice any of you who have been meaning to, but have not yet signed up to the 300 Club. If you put pen to paper there and then, they will reward you with a glass of champagne very kindly donated by former England International and Richmond’s first woman Vice President, Sue Dorrington. Many thanks to her and to all of you who I know will succumb gracefully to the beguiling entreaties of the Ms Whitehead lovelies!

Mr Quigley
I am delighted to report that Andy Quigley is making such an excellent recovery from his recent op that he intends to grace us with his presence once again in the Richmond commentary box for this Saturday’s match. Normal service very happily resumed! Although thanks should of course be given to Tony GP who has so ably covered Quigs’s absence.

England Internationals and the ‘Branch Office’ opening hours
Next Saturday 25th February is a free weekend for the First XV but there is the International down the road at Twickenham when England play Wales KO 4pm
I am delighted to advise that the ‘branch office’ (aka the Vauxhall Zafira kindly donated and sponsored by Zisman Bowyer & Partners, International Engineers) will be open for business in the Cardinal Vaughan car park from about 2.30pm, so if you are lucky enough to have tickets to the game then please do pop in either beforehand or afterwards to partake of suitable refreshment (for a small donation to the cause). The Richmond flag marks the spot and our thanks go to David Saffin and ZBP for making it all possible.
The ‘office’ will also be open for business for the England v Ireland International on Saturday March 17th KO 5pm and both games will of course be shown on the big TV screens at the club for those that have not been lucky enough to obtain tickets.

Lunch at the RAA prior to Home Internationals
And whilst on the subject of the 6 Nations, a reminder that the RAA will be providing pre match lunches at the club before the two home Internationals detailed above. Cost will be £40/head to include a 3 course lunch, half a bottle of wine per person, a glass of port or brandy and an official match day programme.
Any number can be catered for, however large or small, and if you are interested then please contact Patrick Toland at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

RFU Grand Draw
Thanks to all of you who have returned your RFU Grand Draw raffle tickets already and to those of you who still have them in that pile of papers on the side please may I once again ask for your support for this major fund raiser for the Gareth Savin Trust. Not only does it generate funds to enhance the quality of Gareth’s life, but it also gives you the chance to win some fantastic prizes including first prize of £10,000 cash which would be very welcome I am sure in the current economic climate.
The final deadline of the end of February is drawing near so time is running out!

Sainsbury’s Active Kids equipment promotion
Sainsbury’s are once again carrying out this promotion which in the past has yielded much needed balls and equipment for the mini/youth sections, so if you shop at Sainsbury’s, either in store, on line or at petrol stations then please do collect the vouchers between 15th February and 10th April. I have a collection box in the shop so you can drop them off with me when you are next at the ground, or if you are one of our long distance supporters then please pop them in the post to me at the address below.
These vouchers have made a significant contribution to our junior equipment in the past, so your support of this initiative would be much appreciated

Dogs NOT allowed on the ground
Please note that DOGS ARE NOT ALLOWED ON THE GROUND for obvious reasons. Please do respect this rule as increasingly we are having to ask people to remove their dogs from the ground and often suffering verbal abuse as a consequence

This Saturday, 11th February, the FIRST XV make their first trip to Cornwall to play Redruth. They will be travelling down by coach on the Friday evening, staying overnight and then returning from Redruth after the game on the Saturday evening.
For those making their own way there directions can be found here

Redruth advise us that they welcome travelling supporters and that a full cooked breakfast including tea and coffee is available for £6/head from 10.30am to 12 Noon (must be ordered in advance from Denise 07968 854256), a pre match 2 course lunch cost £8.95/head is served (must be ordered in advance from Denise again or Andy on 01209 215520) and hot food is on sale such as pasties, burgers, sausage & chips etc.
In the evening there is a Valentine Black Tie Dinner taking place at the nearby Penventon Park Hotel to which those supporters staying down are cordially invited. Cost £39.95/head for a 3 course meal with wine and entertainment – for further details or to book contact Alan Nettle at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. The remaining senior teams are all scheduled to play at home on Saturday but given the current state of the pitches and the weather forecast, there is some doubt as to whether their games will be able to go ahead, so please do keep an eye on the website where up to date reports will be posted.
The VIKINGS are at home to Esher KO 2pm, the SAXONS are on the Fixture Exchange, the NORMANS entertain Ruislip II at home KO 2.30pm whilst the BARBARIANS are resting. The HEAVIES are away to Kew Occasionals KO 1pm

On Sunday, again weather permitting, a combined team from the WOMEN 2nd & 3rd XVs will take on the Army at home KO 2pm and the YOUTH and MINIS are training at home usual times.

Richmond v Westcombe Park Sat 18th February
The FIRST XV’s only home match in February will take place next Saturday 18th February against Westcombe Park KO 3pm with the usual pre match lunch beforehand cost £22/head (match entrance not included). If you wish to book a place, early notice would be much appreciated.

Kids Camps
As you will be aware from my email earlier this week, there was insufficient interest in the proposed February half term camp to make it viable and it will not therefore be going ahead.

However we are already receiving bookings for the camp we are holding during the Easter holidays on Tuesday 3rd, Wednesday 4th and Thursday 5th April and if you are interested then please do get in touch. The cost will be £25/day (discount of 10% for siblings) and discount of £70 if all 3 days booked. The format will be the same as at previous camps with registration at 9.30am, a packed lunch needed and collection at 3.30pm.

Branch Office opening hours
I am delighted to advise that the ‘branch office’ (aka the Vauxhall Zafira kindly donated and sponsored by Zisman Bowyer & Partners, International Engineers) will be open for business in the Cardinal Vaughan car park for both the home 6 Nations Internationals, so if you are lucky enough to have tickets to the games then please do pop in either beforehand or afterwards to partake of suitable refreshment (for a small donation to the cause). The Richmond flag marks the spot.
Further details as to timings etc to follow but a reminder of the dates: Saturday February 25th England v Wales KO 4pm and Saturday March 17th England v Ireland KO 5pm

Lunch at the RAA prior to Home Internationals
And whilst on the subject of the 6 Nations, a reminder that the RAA will be providing pre match lunches at the club before the two home Internationals detailed above. Everything cancelled due to frozen pitches although I am delighted to report that both the England teams that sport current Richmond players, ie England U20s and the Women’s England 6 Nations team won their matches. For those tekkies amongst you I am advised that The Women’s Rugby Podcast has an interview with Karen Findlay - free down load from iTunes – istn.at/rugby

All home games and training have been cancelled for both this Saturday and Sunday due to the pitches being frozen and the forecast for continued freezing temperatures.
The club house and bars and canteen will however be open on Saturday for the 6 Nations matches which will be shown on the big TV screens. Everything will be closed on Sunday .

Please note that DOGS ARE NOT ALLOWED ON THE GROUND for obvious reasons. Please do respect this rule as increasingly we are having to ask people to remove their dogs from the ground and often suffering verbal abuse as a consequence.

This Saturday 4th February there is no FIRST XV game as this weekend is one of those built into the season to allow for bad weather - which would seem highly appropriate given the current arctic conditions! With these conditions forecast to continue both tonight and tomorrow night it is possible that all the games I am about to detail will not be able to go ahead - so please do keep an eye on the home page of the website as I will post current arrangements on there as soon as possible.

The VIKINGS are now at home to Ealing on Saturday KO 1.30pm (on the main pitch!). This is a top of the league clash and if it goes ahead will be a great match so please do come down to support as it could serve very well as a curtain raiser to the Scotland v England match (KO 5pm) which will of course be shown on the big screens at the club irrespective of whether our own games go ahead.

The SAXONS are on the Fixture Exchange and the NORMANS are taking a week out. The BARBARIANS are at home to Teddington II KO 2pm whilst the HEAVIES are off to Cardiff to play Old Penarthians KO 2pm. They are a couple of bodies short I gather so any Saxon/Norman player not needed and who fancies a trip to Wales would be most welcome – contact Matt Rogers on 07772 336445

Redruth v Richmond 11th February
Next Saturday, 11th February, the FIRST XV make their first trip to Cornwall to play Redruth. They will be travelling down by coach on the Friday evening, staying overnight and then returning from Redruth after the game on the Saturday evening.

On Sunday, again weather permitting, YOUTH games: U17 v Weybridge Vandals away, U16 v Cobham at home KO 12pm, U15 v Henley at home KO 12pm, U14A v Rosslyn Park away, U14B v Haslemere away, U13B v Old Whitgiftians at home KO 12pm
MINIS: U7 to U11C squads are away at the Chobham Dev Festival whilst the remaining minis are hosting Bracknell at home usual time. If in doubt as to where you should be please check the website or contact your age group manager

Richmond in the 6 Nations
As the 6 Nations competition begins this weekend it is good to note that once again Richmond players will be making their contribution.
On Friday Scotland U20s meet England U20s KO 7.30pm and starting for England are our 2 players on loan from Quins, Kyle Sinkler and George Merrick.
And not to be outdone, Richmond women are in the starting line up when the Scottish women take on the English women on Sunday KO 5pm. Starting for England are Rachael Burford and Rowena Burnfield with Amy Turner on the bench, whilst starting for Scotland is Lindsey Wheeler with Tess Forsberg on the bench. Not to mention Scotland’s head coach, our own head coach, Karen Findlay.
We do manage to get everywhere! Good luck to them all

Lunch at the RAA prior to Home Internationals
Whilst on the subject of the 6 Nations, I would mention that the RAA will once again be providing pre match lunches before the two home Internationals, England v Wales Saturday 25th February KO 4pm, lunch 1pm, and England v Ireland 17th March KO 5pm, lunch 2pm.

Kids Camps
We have received some interest in the kids camp we are considering holding during the February half term this year on Tuesday 14th and Wednesday 15th February, and to enable us to make a final decision early next week, if you are interested but have not already let us know, then please may I ask that you do so asap
The cost would be £25/day and the format would be the same as at previous camps with registration at 9.30am, a packed lunch needed and collection at 3.30pm.

I would mention that we definitely intend to hold a camp during the Easter holidays on Tuesday 3rd, Wednesday 4th and Thursday 5th April and I am of course very happy to take bookings now. Same cost and details apply as above.

RFU Grand Draw
Thanks to all of you who have returned your RFU Grand Draw raffle tickets already and to those of you who still have them in that pile of papers on the side please may I once again ask for your support for this major fund raiser for the Gareth Savin Trust. This Saturday 28th January the FIRST XV return home to play Clifton KO 3pm. Having beaten Hartpury last week, Clifton will be a challenge and as it makes a huge difference to our lads to hear your support, please do make that special effort and come down and get behind your team.
There is the usual pre match lunch and there are a few spaces left but I do need bookings by return please. Cost £22/head which does not include match entrance.

Redruth v Richmond 11th February
This will be the last home game for 3 weeks as next weekend it is a ‘free’ weekend and the following week, 11th February, the First XV are off to the wilds of Cornwall to play Redruth. For those supporters considering a ‘mini break’, I would advise you that the team will be travelling down by coach on the Friday evening, staying overnight and then returning from Redruth after the game on the Saturday evening.

This Saturday the VIKINGS are away to Blackheath II KO 2pm, the SAXONS play Bracknell II away KO 2.15pm, the NORMANS entertain Amersham & Chiltern II at home KO 2pm, the BARBARIANS visit Twickenham II KO 2.15pm and the HEAVIES take on Barnes Vets away.

On Sunday there are no WOMEN’s matches as they have now started their 6 Nations break  and we wish all our girls involved the best of luck.
YOUTH games: U16 v Old Albanians at home KO 12pm
The MINIS are all at home training usual time.

London Scottish match Sunday 29th Jan
I would mention that on Sunday London Scottish First XV are playing at home KO 2pm so it will be busy at the ground and parking may well be an issue so please do park considerately

Dogs NOT allowed on the ground
I would stress that DOGS ARE NOT ALLOWED ON THE GROUND for obvious reasons. Please do make this clear to all parents, supporters and opposition as increasingly we are having to ask people to remove their dogs from the ground and often suffering verbal abuse as a consequence

Forum Meeting Monday 30th Jan
A reminder of the meeting next Monday which is open to all club members but I do please need to know the names of attendees and any items for the agenda by tomorrow Friday 27th January.

Kids Camps
Although historically we have not held a kids camp during the February half term, we are considering holding one this year on Tuesday 14th and Wednesday 15th February.
To enable us to gauge the support we are likely to receive I should be very grateful if you would advise us if your child would be interested in attending.

Lost Richmond Scarf
Caroline Habberfield lost her Richmond scarf at the last home game against Taunton and if anyone has inadvertently picked it up by mistake she would be very grateful for its return as it has been with her since the beginning. It is very distinctive in that it has a few holes in it mainly at the ends!

This Saturday 21st January the FIRST XV travel to St Albans to take on Old Albanians in one of the key matches of the season KO 3pm. I know that many of you will be there to support and encourage the lads and I would mention that as the Vikings game against Old Albanians II is no longer going ahead, there will be room on the team coach for supporters, although you need to book with me asap please. The coach will leave at 11.30am
.For those making their own way there directions can be found here
There is a pre match lunch but I am afraid that it is sold out already – such is the pulling power of the Mighty Mond!

The only Richmond game at the ground on Saturday is the WOMEN 1st XV game against Darlington KO at the later time of 5.30pm  - at the visitor’s request to enable them to travel down at a reasonable hour and stay over to enjoy a bit of a social – one wonders if the town of Richmond has been warned!!! All support would of course be very welcome for our Premiership girls.
